Getting started on Console Classix

Alright! So you're ready to give Console Classix a shot. The first thing you will need to do is signup for your own Console Classix account on the menu to the left. You will not be charged money for this, so don't worry about that.

I'm signed up now!

Alright, now that you've signed up for your own Console Classix account, you will need to download the client (The program that runs your games, from hereon known as the Console Classix Client [CCC]). There may be several types of clients. For now, download the free NES client.

I've downloaded the client

Alright! Now you're ready to start playing the classics! First open the Client (Located at Start>Programs>Console Classix> by default). You should see a screen prompting you to input a username and password. Enter the one you just entered at the signup screen. You should then get a window welcoming you to the client. Click Ok. To begin playing games, go to File>Choose ROM, and select the game you want to play (Picture below).

The game I want is taken!

To make Console Classix legal, we have to own an actual copy of each game we provide you with. Hence, sometimes you may not be able to play a game you want to because other users are already playing it. Try back again in a little bit.

My client freezes at the Username screen!

This was a past bug in the old Console Classix program that is rarely seen anymore. If this happens to you, please notify Aaron Ethridge as soon as possible, so we can correct the server immediately.

Why does it say ROM instead of game?

Because when you have the actual game itself, it is a game. But, when we extract the data portion of each game, it is known as the "ROM". So, technically you are playing ROM's, and not games.

I found a bug you didn't mention

Please let us know as soon as possible in the bug report topic in our forums so we can correct the bug as soon as possible.

What is a Save State / Quick Save?

This is a very popular feature in Console Classix. It allows you to save the state of the game exactly when you do it, so you can continue it later. It also allows you to resume your progress from anywhere in the world, using a server side save state. To save a state, go to File>Save State and choose a slot 1-9 (You can have up to 9 save states). To load a save state, simply go to File>Load State after selecting a game and choose a slot.

What does the AVI recorder do?

AVI recorder allows you to start recording the game you are playing into a digital movie format that you can play again later on your computer (.AVI format). This is good for parts that you want other people to see, or maybe even prove to a friend a part you recently cleared! This is the proof you've been looking for!

I have some good suggestions

Please let us know in the Suggestions topic in our Community forums and we will be sure to add them into our next release of the respective client!
